We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5.00am. We will then go by bus to MOLLEPATA (this the beginning of the trek) which takes around 3 hours, when we get there we will have our first breakfast and arrange our horses. After we will walk up for about 3 more hours to CRUZ PATA where we will have lunch. After lunch we will have one hour to rest and then we will start walking to SORAYPAMPA (3.850 meters above sea level). In this part of the trail we are going to see in front of us the first HUMANTAY snow capped mountain. After we will arrive at our first campsite at about 5:30 pm where our porters will be waiting with some hot tea. Later we will eat our dinner (the first campsite is the coldest).
After having a good breakfast and leaving at 6:30am we have to climb up for four hours to the first pass of the SALKANTAY mountain, which is over 4.540 meters above sea level (the highest point of the trek). Here at the top of this Salkantay mountain we stop for around 25 minutes to take group pictures, because from here we will have great views of a range of mountains. We will find some heaps of stones (Apacheta) around this pass. After this, we will decend for about 4 hours through a nice trail to Chaullay (the second campsite), which is lower than the first campsite at 2.900 meters above sea level. Here we will have tea, dinner and then go to bed.
We will leave from Chaullay quite early after our breakfast at 7.00 am. We will then pass through QOLLPAPAMPA. In this part of the trek we will walk along a narrow trail on the mountainside. We will pass some species of orchids, different kinds of plants, some cornfields and fruit fields. We will also have the opportunity to see the most beautiful waterfall on the trail. After walking for 5 hours, we will finally arrive at LA PLAYA where we will take a small truck to get to SANTA TERESA which is 1.645 meters above sea level. The journey will take about 45 minutes to get to SANTA TERESA and we will arrive at about 1.00pm to set up our tents. From here we can go to the medicinal hot springs which are only 45 minutes from Santa Teresa.
We will get up at 7:00 am and after the breakfast we will start walking for about 2 hours to get to the hydroelectric power station where there is a small town. Here we will have lunch and also see many kinds of fruit trees and plants. Finally after lunch we will walk for 3 hours more to get to Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu town where we will spend the night in a hotel.
We have to get up very early in the morning at 4:30 am to have breakfast and then to the Archeological Site of Machu Picchu. When we get to Machu Picchu the tour guide is going to explain the meaning, importance and story of Machu Picchu while we walk around the city and visit the most important places of Machu Picchu for around 2 hours. After the explanation you have the option for climbing up the Huayna Picchu Mountain, enjoying all of Machu Picchu.
