Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco (3,350 m / 10,990 ft) – Aguas Calientes (2,040 m / 6,690 ft)

Begin your journey with a scenic departure from Cusco around 10:00 am, traveling by private bus through the charming Andean landscapes en route to Ollantaytambo. After approximately 2 hours, arrive at the train station and board your train to Aguas Calientes, a delightful 1.5–2 hour ride offering breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley, farmland terraces, and the winding Urubamba River.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes around lunchtime, check into your hotel and enjoy a free afternoon. You may choose to:

  • Visit the Machu Picchu Site Museum and its orchid botanical garden (a pleasant 35-minute walk).

  • Relax in the town’s famous thermal hot springs, known for their mineral-rich waters.

  • Stroll through the lively local market or simply unwind before your Machu Picchu experience.

Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

Day 2: Machu Picchu Exploration (2,430 m / 7,970 ft)

Rise early and take the 25-minute bus ride up to Machu Picchu to enjoy the site during the soft morning light. Begin a 2-hour guided tour following Circuit 3, exploring the most important sectors while learning about Inca engineering, culture, and astronomy from your expert guide.

After the guided visit, enjoy additional free time to explore on your own. For travelers with pre-arranged permits, you may choose to climb:

  • Huayna Picchu (2,693 m / 8,835 ft) – steep and adventurous, approx. 1.5–2 hours round trip.

  • Machu Picchu Mountain (3,082 m / 10,112 ft) – longer but with panoramic views; approx. 3–4 hours round trip.

In the afternoon, head back to Aguas Calientes to board your return train between 15:00 and 17:00 (depending on availability). Upon arriving in Ollantaytambo, meet your bus connection to Cusco, arriving back in the city between 20:00 and 21:00.

A Truly Unforgettable Experience – Salkantay Trek (6 Days / 5 Nights)

We were incredibly lucky to be the very first guests of 2025 with Machupicchu Trek — and what an unforgettable experience it was. From start to finish, this trek was thoughtfully planned, deeply personal, and absolutely seamless. We did the 6-day/5-night Salkantay Trek and felt like we were treated to a private, custom-curated experience unlike anything we’ve seen other companies provide. Our guide George made the trip extraordinary — his deep knowledge, energy, spirit, and genuine care turned our trek into something truly meaningful. He didn’t just lead us; he brought the entire experience to life. Every moment felt intentional and special, and by the end of the trip, George felt like family. We already miss him!Our amazing chef Santiago prepared incredible meals for us every single day. I’m someone who gets sick easily while traveling, and my cousin has multiple food allergies — but neither of us had even the slightest issue. Santiago’s food was delicious, nourishing, and prepared with great care and attention to detail. It truly added to our sense of well-being on the trail.Gladys, our warm and welcoming coordinator, greeted us at the Marriott when we arrived and ensured everything ran smoothly. The entire team — including our fantastic porters — were professional, kind, and full of fun and good energy. They worked so hard behind the scenes to make sure everything was perfect, and it absolutely was.Because of this team’s knowledge and dedication, we experienced Machu Picchu in a way most travelers never get to. If you’re considering this journey, do not hesitate — this is the company to choose. They pour their hearts into every detail and it shows. Thank you, Alexis, George, Santiago, Gladys, Juan, and the whole team — you’ve given us memories we’ll carry for a lifetime. With deepest gratitude, Karen & Alexandra

Efficient and fair price

I usually don't leave reviews, but I gotta say that this company is just amazing. From the beginning of my booking, until I departed from Cusco, they were so attentive. Alex, who is the owner of Machupicchutrek was on top of everything. He was texting us, promptly answering my calls as needed. I traveled with my child 5 years old and they gave me a piece of mind as he was able to get me a babysitter, who assisted me in this journey. Thank you all for your dedication and care for my family. I will recommend you to all my friends and family.
