Clothing:
Light and comfortable clothing for warm destinations such as Lima, Paracas, Ica, and Huacachina.
Cotton or linen shirts and light pants or shorts (also bring long pants for certain excursions).
Hat or cap to protect yourself from the sun.
Warm clothing for high-altitude destinations such as Cusco, Machu Picchu, and Humantay Lagoon.
Thermal jacket or sweater, long pants, and scarf, gloves, and beanie, especially for higher-altitude locations like Rainbow Mountain or Machu Picchu.
Comfortable walking shoes, particularly for city tours and light hikes.
Sturdy trekking boots for hikes such as Humantay Lagoon and Rainbow Mountain.
Sport shoes for dune activities and urban tours.
Sandals or comfortable shoes for moments of rest.
Clothing for Flights and Archaeological Visits:
Comfortable clothing for domestic flights.
Appropriate attire for cultural visits—light, breathable clothes, and something to cover up when visiting religious or sacred sites.
Accessories:
Sun Protection:
High SPF sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher) due to strong sunlight and high altitude in Cusco and Machu Picchu.
Sunglasses for UV protection.
Lip balm with SPF to prevent dryness or cracking.
Daypack:
A small backpack to carry daily essentials such as water, sunscreen, and your camera.
Camera or Mobile Phone:
Don’t forget a good camera or smartphone with enough storage—Peru’s landscapes are breathtaking!
Bring chargers or extra batteries.
Reusable Water Bottle:
Stay hydrated, especially during hikes and warm-weather excursions.
Altitude Medication (Optional):
For those sensitive to altitude, you may bring altitude sickness medication (such as acetazolamide).
Coca leaves or coca tea are also commonly used in Peru to help with acclimatization.
Portable Chargers:
Useful during long journeys by bus or train to keep your devices powered.
Documents and Money:
Carry your passport, ID cards, flight and train tickets, plus copies for safety.
Cash (in Peruvian soles) for small purchases or places that do not accept credit cards.
Personal Kit:
Include essentials such as pain relievers, antiseptics, bandages, and any personal medication.
Insect Repellent:
Especially important in natural areas to prevent mosquito bites.
Additional Considerations:
Power adapters: Peru uses 220V electricity and Type A and C outlets. Bring an adapter if your devices use different plugs.
Swimwear: Don’t forget your swimsuit if you plan to enjoy the beaches or hotel pools.
Microfiber towel: Handy for drying off after outdoor excursions or in humid areas.
With this preparation, you’ll be ready to enjoy every moment of your adventure—whether exploring the Ballestas Islands, sandboarding in Huacachina, or discovering the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu.
Enjoy your journey through the wonders of Peru!
