Short Inca Trail
Tour Description
Embark on the exhilarating 2-day Inca Trail, a perfect option for those seeking a condensed yet spectacular Inca Trail experience without the commitment of a longer trek. This abbreviated journey, spanning 16 km / 10 miles, showcases the very best of the Inca Trail, making it an ideal choice for families with children and those with limited time.
Amidst breathtaking scenery and a rich display of flora and fauna, the 2-day Inca Trail unveils the trail’s crown jewel, Wiñay Wayna – the most beautiful site along the route. This condensed adventure ensures you relish the essence of the Inca Trail in a single day, offering a memorable experience without an overwhelming physical challenge.
Opting for the 2-day, 1-night option allows you to uncover the secrets of the Incas without camping near ablution facilities. Picture the awe-inspiring moment when, after a challenging four-hour ascent, traversing the path of the impressive Inca ruin “Wina Wayna,” you climb a steep flight of stairs, and your breath is captured by the stunning Sun Gate.
Venturing into the Machu Picchu sanctuary for just a few hours is a missed opportunity. A fleeting visit fails to capture the true magnificence and mystery of this ancient empire. The short duration only provides a glimpse, whereas a comprehensive journey through the 2-day Inca Trail allows you to immerse yourself fully in the marvels and mysteries of this extraordinary place. Don’t settle for a stolen glimpse – choose the 2-day Inca Trail for an enriching and unforgettable adventure.
Itinerary
**Day 1: Cusco – Km104 – Aguas Calientes**
The first day of your trek is an impressive journey along the Inca Trail, covering 16km and starting in the Sacred Valley. You’ll explore beautiful Inca sites, witness diverse flora and fauna, and enjoy panoramic views of the Andes mountains. The trek includes a visit to the Inca site of Winay Wayna before reaching Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate (Inti Punku).
As you ascend, passing through the lush cloud forest, you’ll encounter a variety of plants, flowers, and birds. Keep an eye out for larger mammals like Viscachas and, if fortunate, Spectacled Bears. Arriving at the Sun Gate in the late afternoon, you’ll have a stunning first view of Machu Picchu, capturing memorable photos with favorable lighting and fewer tourists. After passing through the Sun Gate, a side trail leads to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll check into your hotel.
*Note: Tourists carry their box lunch, which weighs around 2 Kilos.*
**Day 2: Machu Picchu!**
An early start around 5:30 am (confirmed the previous evening) will take you on one of the first buses back up to Machu Picchu. The day begins with a 2-hour guided tour through Circuit 3, covering the most significant areas of the citadel and providing insights into Inca history. After the tour, those with permits can choose to climb either Huayna Picchu (2 hours round trip) or Machu Picchu Mountain (3 hours round trip).
In the afternoon, you’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo (2 hours) and continue by bus to Cusco (2 more hours).
